Know Your Social Media- the Tweets

This week on Know Your Social Media, we wanted to take a look at tweets, mentions, and replies.

As we learned last week, we know that all three are limited to 140 characters, but who can see them and where do they appear?

A tweet:

Appears for the Sender: on sender’s profile page and sender’s home timeline

Appears for the Recipient: on the home timeline of anyone who is following the sender

It will never appear on anyone else’s profile page unless they re-tweet it.

A mention:

Appears for the Sender: on the sender’s profile page of public tweets

Appears for the Recipient:  on the recipient’s mentions and notification tab. Also, if you follow the person you are mentioning, it will appear on that person’s home timeline. With this, be aware that anyone who is on Twitter following you, the sender of the mention, can see the tweet on their home timeline.

It will never appear on anyone else’s profile page unless they write the message.

A reply:

Appears for the Sender: on the sender’s profile page

Appears for the Recipient: on the recipient’s mentions and notifications tab. Also like mentions, if you follow the person you are mentioning, it will appear on that person’s home timeline. Again with this, be aware that anyone who is on Twitter following you, the sender of the mention, can see the tweet on their home timeline.

It will never appear on anyone else’s profile page unless they write the message.
